Leeds City Council has appointed Mears Group to deliver a five-year repairs and maintenance contract.
The contract, worth around £18.5 million annually, will commence in October 2026 and will see Mears deliver responsive repairs as well as cyclical maintenance services to almost 20,000 homes in west Leeds.
The partnership builds on over 10 years of successful collaboration between the Council and Mears.
Commenting on the new contract, Lucas Critchley, Chief Executive Officer at Mears Group said: “We’re delighted to continue our long-standing relationship with Leeds City Council.
“Securing this contract offers a stable long-term future for Mears in the North of England and reflects our continued focus on delivering high-quality services that ensure residents’ homes are well-maintained, safe and cared for.
“Drawing on our commitment to social value we’ll continue to work closely with partners in the region to invest in social value activity in the local area.”
The contract award comes with the option to extend for a further five years.
FMJ and Watco Webinar: Meeting compliance in a new culture of accountability
From January 2026, the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) formally separated from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Created under the Building Safety Act 2022 in response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy, the BSR is designed to raise safety standards across the built environment and introduce a stronger culture of accountability, transparency, and proactive risk management.
This shift places facilities managers in a more strategic safety assurance role – far beyond routine maintenance.
FMJ and Watco are hosting a webinar on 22 April at 11:00am to explore what this new regulatory landscape means for FMs. To register for the webinar click here.
