Mitie takes off with £20m RAF Mildenhall contract extension

Mitie has been awarded a £20 million facilities management contract extension at RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), the operating arm of the Ministry of Defence (MOD).

The contract, initially awarded to Mitie in 2022 has been extended for a further two years. The agreement will see Mitie continue to provide a suite of critical services including engineering, maintenance, and repair to the US Visiting Forces base, Royal Air Force (RAF) Mildenhall, a major air refuelling hub supporting US and NATO aircraft. Mitie is responsible for the upkeep of the site, which is used by visiting personnel and their families, and upgrades across critical building infrastructure.

With this contract extension, sustainability will remain at the forefront of Mitie’s service delivery, supporting the MOD in achieving its net zero goals. Currently, 98 per cent of the vehicles on site are electric. Mitie will collaborate with the DIO to enhance the site’s sustainability by introducing innovative technology, including the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging points.

Adrian Stevens, Managing Director, Mitie Defence, said: “We’re proud to extend our contract at RAF Mildenhall. This contract extension is testament to the strong partnership we’ve built with the Ministry of Defence, and we look forward to bringing even more innovative solutions to the contract, enabling Allied forces to carry out their services with ultimate efficiency.”

David Neat, DIO United States Visiting Forces’ team, commented: “Following more than two years working with Mitie on the USVF Facilities Management contract, we have taken the decision to extend the arrangement for a further two years. We look forward to continuing to work together with Mitie through this contract extension to manage and maintain assets at RAF Mildenhall on behalf of our US allies.”
