ProFM Group is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Since its founding in February 1996, the company has grown from a local security provider to a nationwide facilities management business, supporting thousands of public and private sector clients across the UK with tailored FM solutions and leading industry experts.
While the ProFM brand itself is relatively new, with the rebrand coming in March of 2025, the company has a long and storied history. ProFM has long been recognised for delivering industry-leading security services and has, since the Approved Contractor Scheme’s audits began in 2017, been consistently among the top one per cent of providers nationwide. Since 2020, it has scored the highest points total (144/145) every year, and since 2023, has been the only provider to do that.
Headquartered in Chorley, Lancashire, the company originally operated as Churchill Security and later Churchill Support Services before undergoing a strategic rebrand inearly 2025 to become a one-stop provider of facilities management solutions across the UK.
John Melling, Chief Executive Officer at ProFM Group, spoke on the pivot to centralise services under the ProFM banner, and what it means for the future of the business.
He said: “Since I started with the business 14 years ago, I have seen it develop, evolve, and go from strength to strength. The transition into the FM market was a strategic one, and one that helps us keep pace with a changing business landscape. We know we need to adapt and grow, and streamlining the FM service offering under a single, central brand was the right way to do that.
“We started with a vision to be the best and provide an exemplary service, and while the technology and scale of services have changed, our core values remain exactly the same. We’re People First at our core, and that’s something we intend to sustain throughout our lifecycle.”
The transition to ProFM Group was designed to reflect its evolution from a security specialist into a multi-disciplinary facilities management group, as well as better position the company in a modern landscape wherein consumers are looking for a centralised approach to FM. Over the course of the last two years, that process has been accelerated by several key acquisitions, notably professional cleaning specialists Vanguard Cleaning Management Solutions and security technology experts Sonitech Systems.
This expansion has allowed the business to provide integrated packages to sectors ranging from healthcare and retail to construction and logistics, integrating combined solutions to help businesses operate safely and efficiently.
It’s also meant a people-focused shift, ensuring that there are significant development opportunities for everyone involved with the business, and that those seeking to develop both professionally and personally have the opportunity to do so. That’s been a consistent point across the company’s history, and Shared Services Director Emily Macaulay is a key example of that. On the celebrations around ProFM Group’s 30th birthday, she commented: “Reaching our 30th year is more than just a milestone; it’s a reflection of the trust our clients place in us and the dedication of our incredible team, and since starting with the business as an apprentice over 11 years ago, I’ve witnessed an incredible evolution first-hand.
“My goal in my directorial position is to provide the same opportunities and growth that I’ve experienced in the last 11 years, and to ensure that we continue to thrive for the next 30 years and beyond.”
