Mitie has won a a coveted Gold RoSPA Award for its commitment to health and safety excellence across the entire Mitie Group.
The award recognises Mitie’s organisation-wide Quality, Health, Safety and Environment (QHSE) LiveSafe programme, which emphasises safety through training, workshops and a culture that prioritises safety. The program includes a set of rules and principles aimed at ensuring the safety of colleagues and those impacted by Mitie’s operations, and fosters a culture of open communication around safety. A further award was received at Group level, recognising Mitie’s commitment to fleet safety.
Whilst Mitie has been recognised by RoSPA several times in recent years, including winning awards across 18 categories last year, with Gold Awards for individual contracts and business units like Communities, Security and Waste and Environment, this is the first year it was entered at Group level. In 2023, Mitie was also the recipient of a President’s Award for its health and safety performance on the Cumbria Consortium contract at Sellafield nuclear site. The President’s Award is given to organisations who have achieved a Gold Award for 10 consecutive years.
Now in its 69th year, and with almost 2,000 entries annually from over 50 countries, covering more than seven million employees, the RoSPA Awards are the world’s largest health and safety awards programme, recognising both organisations and individuals who have set the highest standards in accident prevention.
Peter Dickinson, Chief Legal Officer, Mitie said: “We are delighted to win a Gold award, reflecting how we have embedded the highest health and safety standards into the fabric of our organisation, knitting together the existing Gold standard across multiple parts of our diverse and growing business.
“As the UK’s largest facilities transformation company, with over 72,000 colleagues, we are committed to helping places and communities thrive. This is only possible when there is a strong foundation in health and safety which is instilled in every Mitie colleague from leadership to frontline including those based on busy sites or challenging environments. We are proud that the principles of our LiveSafe programme are followed each day and of the culture of accountability we have built.”
Julia Small, Growth Director, RoSPA, said: “Mitie should be proud of the hard work and commitment to keeping people safe that has resulted in a RoSPA Award, which honours those organisations who have achieved the highest standards in health and safety in the workplace.
“RoSPA regards Mitie as a strong example of the importance of making accident prevention central to any successful organisation, not just for the benefit of employees, customers and clients, but also society as a whole.”
