Sitemark signals global expansion with senior board appointment

Sitemark, a leading independent FM benchmarking consultancy in the UK, has announced a major step in its global growth ambitions with the appointment of Tim Downing to its board of directors signalling the start of a strategic international expansion programme that will see the business exporting its benchmarking model to overseas markets.

Downing, formerly UK Managing Director of RPS Project Management Group before its acquisition by Tetra Tech, will lead the development of Sitemark’s international partner network. His remit includes establishing strategic delivery partnerships across the Middle East, North America and Australia regions where Sitemark has already begun early-stage discussions with prospective collaborators.

The move marks the most significant growth milestone in Sitemark’s 20-year history and positions the business to scale its data-driven FM improvement model beyond the UK for the first time.

Lord Digby Jones, previous Director General of the CBI and former Minister for Trade and Investment, welcomed the appointment and emphasised its wider significance for the global built environment sector. He said: “As an early investor and supporter of Sitemark, I’m delighted to welcome Tim to the team. To have seen the company evolve from a niche regional consultancy into a credible global contender in FM transformation is both exciting and long overdue. Sitemark’s approach to combining benchmarking, best practice and operational excellence is exactly what the international FM market needs at scale.”

Sitemark’s international push comes at a time when global building owners and operators are under increasing pressure to improve performance, reduce waste, meet ESG requirements and demonstrate ROI across complex portfolios. The business has long been recognised within the UK for its ability to drive measurable improvements through robust benchmarking, independent analytics and practical on-site transformation programmes.

Downing said he sees unique opportunity for Sitemark’s methodology to make an impact globally. He commented: “Sitemark is a completely unique business  innovative, evidence-led and far ahead of the market in how it uses data to improve facilities management. Long before AI became mainstream, Sitemark was harnessing advanced analytics to deliver benchmarking insights that have helped facilities teams improve efficiency, quality and cost performance for two decades. The depth of experience here is exceptional.”

He added: “The client list speaks for itself: from major retailers and global tech companies to local authorities and large public estates. The chance to take this model to iconic sites across the world and replicate the results we’ve seen in the UK is an incredibly exciting next chapter.”

Sitemark’s Founder and Managing Director Mike Boxall said the appointment reflects the business’s strategic commitment to internationalising its work and raising global standards across FM.

“Expanding internationally has always been part of the long-term vision, but we wanted the right leadership in place to do it credibly and sustainably,” he said. “Tim brings a rare combination of project management expertise, international experience and a deep understanding of the built environment. This is a pivotal moment for the business and the start of Sitemark’s global journey.”

With strong traction in the UK market and increasing interest from international operators seeking independent benchmarking, Sitemark’s move into global markets is expected to accelerate throughout 2026.

Workspace management: One-size-fits-all booking systems don’t work anymore

The way we work has changed – yet, many organisations are still relying on rigid, one-size-fits-all tools to manage desks and meeting rooms, according to a new study from workplace management solutions provider, Matrix Booking.

Spreadsheets, calendars, and generic booking software may have worked once, but they’re struggling to keep pace with today’s flexible, hybrid workforce. The result? Wasted time, frustrated employees, and expensive underutilised space.

Matrix Booking’s new study, ‘One-size-fits-all booking systems don’t work for today’s workforce’, explores why current systems are falling short – and how organisations can reimagine workspace management to boost efficiency, employee experience, and cost savings.
