UK’s first Commercial Solar PV Installation & Design course launches

The first dedicated programme in the UK focused specifically on the design, planning, and delivery of large-scale rooftop solar systems for commercial and industrial buildings has been launched by GTEC Training, a leading provider of renewable energy and low-carbon training and part of United Infrastructure.

The Commercial Solar PV Installation & Design course is endorsed by LCL Awards, a UK awarding organisation and certification body, and sets a new benchmark for professional development in the UK’s fast-growing commercial solar market.

The launch comes at a crucial time for the sector, as commercial solar installations continue to surge across the UK in response to both rising energy costs and the drive toward net zero. Developed in close consultation with industry experts, the course has been created to support a broad spectrum of professionals, from qualified electricians, installers and facilities managers to developers, energy consultants, sustainability leads and investors. It’s also suited to those directly involved in installing solar systems and overseeing the strategic, financial or compliance aspects of commercial solar projects.

Delivered over two intensive days, the programme provides a comprehensive foundation in commercial solar PV design, specification and management. Participants will gain a deep understanding of system design and supervision, array layout, electrical configuration, and the use of solar PV software for performance modelling and feasibility studies. The course also covers project planning and preparation for complex installations, large-scale health and safety protocols, professional documentation and specification standards, and best practice for monitoring and maintaining long-term system performance.

Griff Thomas, Managing Director of GTEC Training, said: “This is a landmark step for the UK’s solar training landscape. Commercial solar is booming, but the skills gap is widening. This course provides a structured, practical pathway for professionals to upskill and lead confidently in this exciting and fast-evolving market.”

With the introduction of the Commercial Solar PV Installation & Design course, GTEC Training strengthens its role as a leader in renewable energy training, supporting the UK’s transition to a low-carbon future while ensuring the workforce has the skills needed to deliver safe, efficient and compliant solar projects at scale.

The commercial solar PV course is now open for enrolment at GTEC Training’s North Yorkshire training centre, with additional regional sessions planned for 2026.

Workspace management: One-size-fits-all booking systems don’t work anymore

The way we work has changed – yet, many organisations are still relying on rigid, one-size-fits-all tools to manage desks and meeting rooms, according to a new study from workplace management solutions provider, Matrix Booking.

Spreadsheets, calendars, and generic booking software may have worked once, but they’re struggling to keep pace with today’s flexible, hybrid workforce. The result? Wasted time, frustrated employees, and expensive underutilised space.

Matrix Booking’s new study, ‘One-size-fits-all booking systems don’t work for today’s workforce’, explores why current systems are falling short – and how organisations can reimagine workspace management to boost efficiency, employee experience, and cost savings.
