AI doesn’t replace people it makes them more productive, allowing them to do more within their role said Harry Dodd-Noble, Chief Product Officer, askporter during the recent FMJ/askporter webinar: How to overcome the comms gap in FM with AI and tech tool.
FMJ and askporter held the webinar on 29 January to discuss the main findings of the 2026 askporter UK Facilities Management Market Research Report, which revealed that facilities management professionals want clear, verifiable evidence of work being delivered, with teams that can communicate progress in real time.
The research revealed that one of the biggest concerns is the level of reactive firefighting per week carried out by 73 per cent of respondents and the time and labour waste 43.8 per cent experienced – due to unplanned work.
Panellist’s Andrew Targell, Global Head of Real Estate Technology at JLL and Mark Griffiths Founder and MD of WMA Consultancy and former Chair of Judges for the IWFM Awards agreed with Dodd-Noble’s summation of the positive impact of AI.
Targell added that AI doesn’t magically create value but by designing platforms more flexibly can help FMs determine what problems need to be resolved and find ways to address those problems.
Griffiths also advised that it’s important not to throw another solution on top of what software you’ve already got. “It’s when they get that integration right that the winners in FM in the next couple of years will be those that get their operational data in place that helps deliver a strategic advantage.”
