AI needs to be perceived as going beyond chatbots and communications, “because its greatest value is likely to come from the back office, where it can make people’s work easier and more effective,” advised Harry Dodd-Noble, Chief Product Officer, askporter during the recent FMJ/askporter webinar: From coordination to capacity: how FM teams are doing more with AI.
The Webinar which took place on 16 June focused on how FM teams are having to manage more sites, contracts and client expectations than ever. The panel agreed that investing in the right AI tools can help support FM teams, improve efficiency and provide valuable data.
Currently, commented Wayne Young, Head of Facilities Management, DB Cargo, “the market is crowded with systems, each with its own USP, and that can add to the list of spinning plates for facilities management teams trying to choose the right tools'”.
Alan Wright, Chief Technology Officer, Arcus FM warned that; “software fragmentation creates confusion, slows down processes, leads to duplication, and introduces uncertainty. The opportunity for FM is to connect those workflows so that colleagues, suppliers, and clients are all working from a ‘shared single version of the truth”.
Choosing the right solutions added Young will enable FMs to move from reactive facilities management towards a more proactive approach, being armed with the right data, the ability to see it clearly and a clear end goal in mind when selecting technology.
As Dodd-Noble counselled, “by choosing the right software platforms FMs can bring everything into one place, reducing the burden on their teams and create the headspace to make bigger, more strategic decisions”.
