DTGen to provide emergency power solution in Aberdeen

Power generation specialist, DTGen, has been appointed to supply and install the emergency power solution for the new £244.8 million development of The Baird Family Hospital and ANCHOR Centre for NHS Grampian at the Foresterhill Health Campus in Aberdeen.

At The Baird Family Hospital, three 1100kVA synchronised generators, 16,000ltr structural base tanks and supporting infrastructure will be installed at the site which replaces the existing Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, and encompasses a number of additional services including breast screening, breast surgery and gynaecology services.

The purpose-built ANCHOR Centre will provide new accommodation for oncology and haematology out-patient and day-patient services to be co-located, and it will be supported by a 500kVA generator and structural base tank with 12,000ltr fuel storage.

Once complete, The Baird Family Hospital will be around 26,000m² in size, with more than 1,000 rooms and have physical links into Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital to allow easy transfer for patients.

Donnie Macdonald, Head of Projects at DTGen, said: “Our experience in delivering emergency power solutions for the health sector spans five decades so we have a strong track record of delivering high specification equipment to the NHS ensuring a seamless transition between old and new systems. We’re proud to be supporting the delivery of these two new state of art facilities.”

The ANCHOR Centre is scheduled to open in 2023, followed by The Baird Family Hospital which will open in 2024.
