Hamilton Waste & Recycling announces Edinburgh acquisition and expansion into Glasgow

Hamilton Waste & Recycling Limited has acquired Edinburgh-based Summerside Skips and announced the expansion of its operations into Glasgow.

The acquisition of Summerside Skips will enable its customers to benefit from Hamilton’s recycling infrastructure further improving their environmental performance and helping them to control their future costs.

All Summerside employees will be transferred over and join the Hamilton team.

Hamilton’s Glasgow expansion will see the business operating a fleet of skip and roll-on-off vehicles to support the city’s construction sector, while a trade waste service will also be introduced to meet the needs of Glasgow’s commercial and industrial markets. The move will also allow Hamilton to roll out services to existing customers who work or have sites in the region.

The new Glasgow site will have facilities to undertake segregation and consolidation of waste in the western central belt of Scotland.  Waste that requires further processing will be taken to its flagship facility near Edinburgh where further materials will be recovered. Many of these high-quality secondary resources are then supplied back to the construction companies and reprocessors helping reduce the use of virgin materials and lower their carbon footprint.

Commenting on the expansion Hamilton’s Managing Director, Robin Stevenson, said: “This expansion into Glasgow opens an exciting new market for Hamilton Waste & Recycling and enables us to meet customer requests for services in the region. We look forward to offering our outstanding service levels and processing capability to companies across the central belt and giving them access to what is widely recognised as one of the most sophisticated recycling facilities anywhere in Scotland.”

Waste Management and Recycling Survey

FMJ in conjunction with Grundon Waste Management have launched the 2022 survey into how FMs approach their waste management and recycling responsibilities.

It’s the fifth year for the annual appraisal, and as we return to normal, there is a real opportunity for FMs to reappraise their waste and recycling operations and look at new, smarter waste management strategies.

In order to understand how FMs have navigated their way through the last year and their plans for meeting stringent waste and recycling targets we’ve posed a series of questions which include insights into FMs’ waste management strategy and targets, such as zero waste and landfill, the types of waste organisations produce and what helps FMs promote waste management in their organisations?

Please share your experiences and opinions on waste management. The survey will take just five minutes to complete, and as a thank you for taking part, respondents will be entered into a prize draw to win a £150 Amazon gift card.
