Key strategic win for Kier’s rail business

Kier has been appointed to lot A1 of Network Rail’s North West & Central Region CP7 (Control Period 7) Framework for capital delivery works, which covers projects ranging from £7 million to £200 million in value.

The framework will run for five years from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2029, with the potential for a two-year extension.

The works covered by the Framework include civil engineering and building works to existing and new stations, depots, platforms, car parks and other lineside buildings as well as railway engineering works, such as signalling, switches and crossings, telecoms, electrification work and more.

The North West and Central region is the economic spine linking major cities. It runs from London Euston through to the West Midlands regions, the North West of England and Cumbria before joining with Scotland. It is also home to the West Coast Mainline, the busiest mixed-use railway in Europe and is a new regional appointment for Kier’s rail business.

Mandy Duncan, MD for Rail & Aviation at Kier Transportation said: “This is a key strategic win for our rail business and we’re delighted to have been awarded the CP7 North West & Central Regional framework. It’s the first time we’ve been appointed to a Control Period for the region, which provides vital links across the country.

“We look forward to working closely with Network Rail and our supply chain to play our part in maintaining and advancing rail infrastructure across the region, demonstrating the ever-growing expertise and technical capabilities in our business.”

The appointment builds on Kier’s growing presence in the rail sector and follows its successful acquisition of the Buckingham Group Contracting rail business in September 2023.

Navigating FM efforts to sustainability

As environmental protection demands unified action, transparency, and heightened awareness, Biological Preparations has launched an initiative to catalyse sustainability efforts within the FM sector.

FM businesses face unique challenges and heightened expectations of eco-initiatives from their clients. Yet, behind the scenes in FM businesses, many environmental initiatives, rollouts and even planning, are not broadcasted and transparent.

Have your say: Sustainability Trends in FM

The UK biotech company’s five-minute, anonymous FM-focused survey, offers FM professionals of all hierarchies with a platform to voice their perspectives and share their experiences. The results from this survey will then be analysed and presented as an industry-specific report, which aims to guide FM businesses helping them benchmark trends, gain clarity on industry challenges, and map out goals and metrics towards sustainability.
