MD appointment at J S Wright

Birmingham-based mechanical and electrical building services provider, J S Wright, has appointed Peter Grierson as its new Managing Director.

Previously National Sales Director for Wolseley Pipe and Climate, he will take control of the day-to-day running of J S Wright and its sister company Wright Maintenance following Phil Leech’s move to Chairman.

Based at the Aston headquarters of the employee ownership trust-controlled company, which also has a London office, Grierson has more than 30 years of experience in the sale of building products to the construction industry.

Grierson began his career as a trainee sales representative with the national Graham Plumbers’ Merchant chain before joining Alumasc selling rainwater and drainage systems to specifiers and contractors. He then moved to pipeline and heating solutions giant BSS Group as Key Account Director, rising to Southern Region Director and then National Business Development Director. Prior to joining Wolseley, he was Regional Sales Director South for interior fit-out product specialist SIG Interiors.

As Managing Director of J S Wright, Grierson will work closely with a highly experienced team including Contracts Director Matt Coy and Design & Estimating Director David Cook, and with the full support of the J S Wright Board.

Speaking about his appointment, Grierson said: “I look forward to working with my new colleagues in continuing the company’s success built up over 132 years. Having enjoyed a long association as a supplier, I have always regarded J S Wright as a business that conducts itself with integrity, is heavily focused on its people, and ensures that exceptionally high-quality standards remain paramount.”

He added: “My outlook from early in my career has been to deliver to the customer exactly what has been promised and build lasting relationships on the strength of the trust which that brings. It involves having people around you with a shared vision, mission and purpose and ensuring that in all discussions and negotiations everyone feels they have been heard and achieved some gain.”

Webinar: Use of tech in helping FMs deliver ESG

FMJ, in partnership with PlanRadar, is pleased to bring together a panel of experts to discuss achieving ESG using the power of digitisation.

According to the Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) the UK’s built environment is responsible for 25 per cent of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions, and a large proportion of the commercial stock in the UK requires further investment to become environmentally sustainable. With climate deadlines looming, urgent action is needed.

The pandemic taught us the importance of utilising digital technology to protect people. FMs are now aware of the use of accurate data to help manage assets as well as occupants, by streamlining maintenance programmes, monitoring building assets performance and measuring the amount of energy being used.

FMs have a key role in meeting ESG goals, which include:

* Environment: Meeting sustainability goals, including net zero targets, waste reduction and recycling

* Social: Maintaining health and safety, delivering social value, equality and diversity, duty of care and investment in skills

* Governance: Compliance with all regulatory requirements and legislation, and reducing errors by the use of robust data processes.

The webinar will take place on the 11th October at 11am.
