Veolia signs new partnership deal with Hammersmith & Fulham Council

The resource management company has won a new contract with Hammersmith & Fulham Council which will help contribute towards significantly improving recycling rates and supporting its ambitions to reach net zero by 2030.

The initial nine years and nine months contract includes kerbside recycling and waste collections, bulky waste and street cleansing and will expand the current food waste recycling scheme to cover the whole of Hammersmith & Fulham. The borough is home to several high-profile events for which Veolia will deliver street cleansing services namely the Boat Race, Queen’s Club tennis and around the three football stadiums on match days.

A tailor-made recycling improvement plan will be devised in collaboration with the Council and will be supported by a new Education, Communication and Outreach team to engage with residents and community groups on the ground to introduce new initiatives to increase recycling.

As a leader in the development of electric municipal refuse fleets, Veolia will work with Hammersmith & Fulham to develop electric vehicle and charging infrastructure solutions creating significant reductions in CO2e emissions,  improving air quality and diminishing noise pollution. This will also support Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s climate emergency target to achieve net zero by 2030.

Gavin Graveson, Veolia Senior Executive Vice President Northern Europe Zone said: “We are delighted to announce that we are the environmental partner of choice for Hammersmith & Fulham Council. The contract will significantly boost recycling rates across the borough, conserving resources in line with our purpose of ecological transformation.

“We are committed to launching social value initiatives within the community, such as introducing the Sustainability Fund to support local biodiversity and recycling projects, provide recruitment opportunities for long term unemployed residents and increase the number of apprentices.”

2023 FMJ and Grundon Recycling and Waste Management Survey

FMJ in conjunction with Grundon Waste Management is pleased to launch the 2023 waste management and recycling survey which examines the ways in which FMs approach their waste management responsibilities.

In this, the sixth year for the annual appraisal, we know there is a greater opportunity than ever for FMs to reappraise their waste and recycling operations and help their organisations meet the growing pressure to achieve ESG goals.

We want to learn how FMs have adapted to the legislative, economic and societal changes of the past year and how they plan to meet the latest waste and recycling targets.

In this survey we’ve posed a series of questions which include insights into FMs’ waste management strategy and targets, how they’re moving towards zero waste targets, and the importance of not just meeting compliance targets but also ESG goals.

The results of the 2023 survey will be published in FMJ magazine and form the basis of a white paper co-written by FMJ and the experts at Grundon on how to approach waste and recycling strategies.
