A partnership between Guildford-based charity, The Prostate Project and washroom services provider, Sanaway, has enabled 46 men to take a blood test for early detection of prostate cancer at Surrey firm, Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL).
The event took place in February and was the first of what is planned to be a series of collaborative efforts between The Prostate Project, Sanaway and their clients.
SSTL staff and family members, as well as contractors were invited to take a PSA blood test at their offices at Surrey Research Park. The test helps to check for prostate conditions, including prostate cancer, a disease which kills more than 12,000 men each year in the UK.
In 2025, washroom services and matting provider, Sanaway, launched ONE, the UK’s first ever inclusive washroom hygiene service to help normalise the presence and use of a universal hygiene unit that can be used by everyone who needs them, regardless of whether they use male, female, unisex, or accessible washroom facilities.
Through Sanaway’s partnership with The Prostate Project, all ‘ONE’ service users receive information to display in washrooms on the various risk factors for prostate cancer, and the importance of taking a simple PSA test for early prostate cancer detection.
Co-founder and director of Sanaway Patrick Martin helped organise the day, and says “We’re delighted Surrey Satellite Technology is our first customer to conduct employee PSA testing thanks to our partnership with the Prostate Project, and it’s fantastic to see our vision being realised through our ONE initiative. Caught early, prostate cancer is usually curable. By getting ONE and The Prostate Project in front of our customers, we are helping raise awareness of their mobile PSA testing facility, potentially helping more men get treatment for prostate cancer earlier and ultimately save more lives.”
Michael Usher, a business owner from Frimley in Surrey, was pleased to attend particularly as a family member had recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He says, “I am grateful to SSTL for inviting me to attend. My message to other men is quite simple, just get tested, the sooner any problems can be highlighted the better the chances are for treatment.”
Describing the prostate cancer testing event, as “a great success, and a really enjoyable day”, Mike Collins, trustee of the Prostate Project, adds “Thanks to everyone at SSTL for their hospitality, and for organising the day with ourselves and Sanaway. Early prostate cancer is often symptomless and the only way to detect it is via a PSA blood test.”

FMJ and Watco Webinar: Meeting compliance in a new culture of accountability
From January 2026, the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) formally separated from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Created under the Building Safety Act 2022 in response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy, the BSR is designed to raise safety standards across the built environment and introduce a stronger culture of accountability, transparency, and proactive risk management.
This shift places facilities managers in a more strategic safety assurance role – far beyond routine maintenance.
FMJ and Watco are hosting a webinar on 22 April at 11:00am to explore what this new regulatory landscape means for FMs. To register for the webinar click here.
