Kier appoints Kimpton for MEP works

Hard FM services provider, Kimpton, has been appointed to deliver a £2.4 million MEP services contract for Kier at the new Wythenshawe Culture Hub.

The contract will see the firm support main contractor Kier as its preferred MEP delivery partner, with design and installation of systems including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, smoke extraction, BMS, internal and external lighting, small power, fire alarm, access control and public address systems.

Part of a wider £500 million regeneration scheme led by Muse alongside Manchester City Council, Wythenshawe Culture Hub is located within the town’s Civic building and will ultimately include spaces for food and drink and a mix of flexible community and studio spaces for workshops, exhibitions, classes or community events. It will also feature a brand-new 40-seater cinema room and a new 200-seater performance space for a diverse range of dance, drama, music or modern art showcases.

Kimpton is expected to start on site in Autumn 2026 and achieve completion of the works by the middle of 2027.

The contract award builds on Kimpton’s valued relationship with Kier, following a number of previous contracts.

Neil Davies, Divisional Manager-MEP Manchester at Kimpton, said: “The new Culture Hub will provide a major boost for aspiring creatives and artists in Wythenshawe and the surrounding area by delivering a contemporary cultural platform for both grassroots and professional groups.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to enhance our working relationship with Kier and to continue expanding our service delivery for clients within the Greater Manchester region.”

FMJ and Watco Webinar: Meeting compliance in a new culture of accountability

From January 2026, the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) formally separated from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Created under the Building Safety Act 2022 in response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy, the BSR is designed to raise safety standards across the built environment and introduce a stronger culture of accountability, transparency, and proactive risk management.

This shift places facilities managers in a more strategic safety assurance role – far beyond routine maintenance.

FMJ and Watco are hosting a webinar on 22 April at 11:00am to explore what this new regulatory landscape means for FMs. To register for the webinar click here.
