BaxterStorey stays on at Birmingham City University

The hospitality business has been awarded a nine-year contract renewal to deliver on-campus catering services at Birmingham City University (BCU), in a partnership that will prioritise food sustainability.

Valued at £40 million over the contact term, the deal will see BaxterStorey continue to provide a dynamic dining experience for staff and students at one of the country’s largest universities. The partnership includes measures to reduce food waste, such as the continued use of surplus fruits and vegetables in salads and smoothies, and a ‘grow our own’ will be introduced to align with BCU’s ambitious 2030 net-zero initiatives.

As part of the contract extension, BaxterStorey has invested significantly in revamping the hospitality space of BCU’s Curzon building, taking its offering to the next level. The new culinary destination boasts Rahina’s Food Fusion, spearheaded by the talented apprentice commis chef Rahina. It offers diners a weekly-changing culinary experience inspired by the rich and diverse flavours of Indian and Pakistani cuisine.

The offering will also include a Student Saver space, appreciating the cost-of-living challenges students are experiencing, serving up comfort food favourites as well as hot grab-and-go items, that make sure the food service is accessible to all. A new theatre bar called The Assembly will also deliver an, ever changing menu, serving up mouthwatering delights such as Korean BBQ bao buns with spicy kimchi, and Wildfarmed Pizzas, that take the fight to the high street and are aligned to the demands of the new era student.

BaxterStorey has held the contract with BCU since 2015.

Commenting on the new contract extension, Peter Kent, Regional Managing Director of BaxterStorey, said: “We are thrilled to announce that we will be continuing our longstanding partnership with Birmingham City University. We recognise that standing still is not on the agenda for us or at Birmingham City University. We know that there is a taste for revolution, and our revamped offering will introduce game-changers to create a new era of dining experience at BCU. Our goal is to promote sustainability and community engagement while ensuring that everyone enjoys delicious and healthy meals.”
