Housing association L&Q has appointed Kier Places to its Major Works Investment Programme, which will span East London, including Waltham, Tower Hamlets, Stratford, Newham, Redbridge and Barking and Dagenham.
Kier is one of 10 contractors selected to deliver the programme, expected to be worth up to £300 million per annum, which will see the partners deliver a range of services including estate and environmental improvements, planned mechanical and engineering works and internal decorations for L&Q residents.
Working in partnership with L&Q, Kier Places will also support residents and the local community with a range of social value commitments, such as employment, apprenticeships and skills opportunities. Kier Places will also work with the nine other selected contractors to support a number of local community projects.

The contracts have been awarded to companies of varying sizes and locations. The other nine contractors appointed to the programme are: Amber Construction, Axis Europe, Breyer Group, Durkan, Equans, Foster, Morgan Sindall Property Services, United Living and Wates.

Contract mobilisation has begun, with the commencement of services effective from 3 April 2023.
With the current economic crisis resulting in higher prices and more of a squeeze on resources, FMs need to ensure that they have robust building and maintenance services in place to control costs and reduce the need for emergency repairs. When it comes to drainage and plumbing there are also the challenges of dealing with extreme weather, from droughts to flooding, the need to meet stringent regulations and to avoid causing environmental damage.
UK drainage specialist, Metro Rod, has launched a survey which explores the main areas of interest for FMs in maintaining drainage and plumbing, including how they currently assess their supply chains to ensure they’re working with partners that meet the highest possible standards and provide value for money.
The results will be published online so that you can see how you compare to others within the sector.
