Solvay awards 14forty a three-year FM contract for cleaning, security and managed services

FM company 14forty, part of Compass UK & Ireland has won a three-year contract to provide cleaning, security and managed services at a Solvay chemical plant in Warrington. This is in addition to the catering service that Compass already provides on-site via sister brand Eurest. The FM contract started in July 2023.

Solvay, a global business with almost 100 sites and 22,000 employees spread over 61 countries, produces an enormous range of materials, chemicals and solutions for industries such as aerospace and healthcare.

Its Warrington site in Cheshire, known as Solvay Interox, manufactures hydrogen peroxide for pulp and paper bleaching, disinfection, environmental treatment, chemical synthesis and aquaculture.

Solvay Interox is an upper-tier COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations 2015) site because of the hazardous chemicals present and production processes it operates.

To ensure safety and prevent a chemical incident, Solvay constantly assesses the hazards associated with its operations and the controls it employs.

Cleaning teams are responsible for the factory floor, offices, bathrooms, laundry and site restaurant. Because the plant is COMAH registered, they must have a full understanding of all Solvay’s manufacturing procedures, conduct risk assessments, wear PPE and only go into designated areas when it is safe to do so.

Security is also paramount and 14forty’s officers, who man the gates 24 hours a day, welcome visitors, patrol the perimeter and also undertake rigorous checks of permitted movements in and out of site.

Mauro Ortelli, managing director at 14forty, said: “We are delighted to win this contract, extending our already successful relationships, and look forward to supporting these wider range of services for Solvay. Our teams have done a great job of setting up so far and embedding our people within the contract. We look forward to working together.”

Richard Tarver, plant manager at Solvay Interox, added: “14forty came to us with a clear plan to address our challenges and what’s more, mobilised and took over the contract in just 30 days at our request, as we wanted a quick turnaround.

“The service has been diligent, professional and of an impeccably high standard.”

Planned, proactive maintenance is a keystone of every FM strategy. However, with current cost constraints, there are many demands on Facilities Managers’ maintenance budgets. When it comes to drainage and plumbing, however, the expense of repairing blockages or dealing with flooding could vastly exceed the cost of preventative maintenance.

Given your role as an FM Professional, we would love to hear your views, challenges & experiences, and opinions on drainage & plumbing within the workplace.

The survey will take just five minutes to complete and offers the chance to win an Amazon Gift Card Worth £100.
