BaxterStorey fuelling minds with new university partnership

Hospitality food service provider, BaxterStorey, has launched a new catering offer at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Working in partnership to provide students and staff at the south London campus with a healthy and sustainable offering, BaxterStorey has committed to transforming the on-campus provision to ensure carbon neutral menus by 2025.

The new seven-year partnership will provide Goldsmiths’ community of 12,000 students and staff with a range of refreshed locations to experience quality food and drink that is environmentally conscious, convenient and packed with flavour.

In keeping with Goldsmiths’ commitment to supporting local organisations and businesses in south London, coffee will be on offer from Extract Coffee Roasters which is based just over three miles away from campus and freshly made Wildfarmed bakery items, and a fresh and zingy street food concept called The Balcony offering sourdough pizzas and Wildfarmed tacos.

BaxterStorey’s commitment to sustainability and reducing food waste is a key component of the new contract. The company will use Waste Knot surplus vegetables to create its homemade soups and salads, while its War on Waste programme will continue to help reduce food waste across the campus.

Additionally, all beverage suppliers and products will be carefully selected for their sustainability credentials. Students will also be encouraged to purchase reusable utensils with the promise of a free drink, and teams’ uniforms will be made from recycled plastic.

Sarah Miller, Managing Director at BaxterStorey said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Goldsmiths and can’t wait to inspire minds and tastebuds across campus. Supporting the university’s mission to reduce carbon emission within catering is a key focus for us, and we have already launched new experiences and initiatives to create not only a memorable dining experience, but a sustainable one too.”

Mark Hughes, Director of Estates and Facilities at Goldsmiths, commented: “We know that food sustainability is very important for our students and staff which is why it’s key for us to work with a catering provider which shares these values. We’re very excited to be able to refresh our catering offer and look forward to working closely with BaxterStorey.”

Metro Rod Drainage and Plumbing Survey

With the current economic crisis resulting in higher prices and more of a squeeze on resources, FMs need to ensure that they have robust building and maintenance services in place to control costs and reduce the need for emergency repairs. When it comes to drainage and plumbing there are also the challenges of dealing with extreme weather, from droughts to flooding, the need to meet stringent regulations and to avoid causing environmental damage.

UK drainage specialist, Metro Rod, has launched a survey which explores the main areas of interest for FMs in maintaining drainage and plumbing, including how they currently assess their supply chains to ensure they’re working with partners that meet the highest possible standards and provide value for money.

The results will be published online so that you can see how you compare to others within the sector.

The survey should take just 5-10 minutes of your time, and as a thank you, you will be entered into a prize draw, where one lucky winner will be picked at random to receive a £100 Amazon voucher.
