Businesses could save £24k a year by switching to a circular model

A new report highlighting the financial benefits of businesses adopting circular models that minimise waste has been published by Bywaters, a leading recycling and resource management firm in London.

According to Bywaters the new report reveals a “powerful economic argument” in favour of more environmentally friendly business models, that are underpinned by a circular approach to operations.

The research reveals a stark contrast between linear and circular systems, indicating that a linear model can cost businesses up to £34,000 annually (for the average business/office site), with the majority of the expenses coming from the disposal of dry mixed recycling.

However, by implementing a a circular model and the correct segregation of recyclable materials at source, Bywaters says it can bring savings of approximately 70 per cent of waste disposal costs, translating to approximately £24,000 for the average business.

Commenting on the new report, John Glover Jr, MD at Bywaters, said: “These findings show clearly that implementing a circular business model isn’t just a win for the planet, but also a win for your business from a financial point of view. Moving away from a linear model to a circular model brings all sorts of savings on an annual basis, especially as you can literally reuse equipment that would otherwise be discarded or avoid waste that’s expensive to remove and take to landfill.

“Circular models are the future, and a necessity if we’re going to put an end to the waste crisis and worsening plastic pollution.”
