ISS awards patient meal supply contract to apetito

ISS UK has awarded apetito, one of the UK’s largest suppliers of delivered-in meals, a new patient meal supply contract across the company’s healthcare business, serving around 8.5million meals per year.

apetito’s core values, principles and policies makes them a significant asset to ISS’s healthcare food service vision. ISS says apetito shares its high standards of quality, responsibility, dedication and ethics, and is also focused on reducing food waste, sourcing ethically and lowering carbon emissions as part of its net zero commitment, which will provide food that meets patients’ standards of quality and sustainability values.

The healthcare business is the largest of ISS UK’s B2B divisions; a valued sector where there is opportunity for both companies to evolve, learn and help deliver on multiple NHS and government pledges. Over the next five years, both partners will continue to build a product range to meet the evolving needs of NHS patients, developing systems and processes that reduce waste, labour and cost.

Donna Brown, Managing Director, ISS Facility Services Healthcare UK commented: “I am delighted that ISS and apetito will be entering into a new partnership to provide best in class meals to the hospitals where we provide patient catering.

“We are confident that we have selected the best strategic supplier to support our value proposition and enhance our patient meal offer. It’s an exciting time for both ISS and our customers as we focus on shared product development and innovation, sustainability, reducing food waste, social value and training. We are excited about the benefits this new working relationship will bring and look forward to seeing this rolled out across all our healthcare contracts in the coming months.”

Paul Freeston, Chair & CEO, apetito UK & North America added: “We are very excited to be entering this new relationship with ISS. It’s a partnership that is built on shared social values and a mutual passion to deliver quality, innovation, and value back to the NHS.

“Together we can make a real difference in delivering outstanding food and nutrition to hospital patients throughout the UK whilst supporting the NHS in its objectives to reach net zero by 2040.’’

The contract commenced on 1 October 2022.
