Skanska UK supporting its people

Construction firm, Skanska UK, has announced that it is investing £1 million in cost-of-living support to its people.

The investment will benefit around 1,300 members of the Skanska team with one-off payments of £750 to be made in November.

Gregor Craig, Skanska UK President and CEO said; “Skanska UK will be investing £1 million in our people by providing this additional support. We recognise the challenges many households are facing due to the rising cost of living and is a real reflection of our values and purpose.”

In a separate announcement, Skanska UK has also unveiled a substantial increase in support available for parents and carers, with the company enhancing its maternity, paternity, adoption and dependents benefits with immediate effect.

The details of these improvements are:

  • Maternity and adoption leave has been increased to 26 weeks’ fully paid leave.
  • Paternity leave has been increased to eight weeks’ fully paid leave. This can be taken in one week blocks over 12 months from the birth or placement of the child.
  • Parental bereavement leave has been extended for colleagues who are affected by miscarriage, providing up to two weeks’ paid leave.
  • Dependents leave has been increased to up to one week’s paid leave.

Executive Vice President, Harvey Francis commented: “I’m delighted that we’re able to announce these significant enhancements to the support Skanska UK provides for parents and carers.

“We’re providing greater support to all families (including adoptive and LGBTQ+ parents) at the time when they need it most, whatever their circumstances and furthering our commitment to making Skanska a great place to work.

“Supporting our employees’ family responsibilities with this package of improvements is simply the right thing for us to be doing. We recognise the importance of flexibility for families, and this has been central to our thinking throughout this process.

Skanska UK’s Women’s network lead, Christina Kio-Bennett added: “These changes support all parents to take time away from work to be with their family at this valuable time. This is an important step forward in our journey to achieve gender equality.”

Webinar: Use of tech in helping FMs deliver ESG

FMJ, in partnership with PlanRadar, is pleased to bring together a panel of experts to discuss achieving ESG using the power of digitisation.

According to the Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) the UK’s built environment is responsible for 25 per cent of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions, and a large proportion of the commercial stock in the UK requires further investment to become environmentally sustainable. With climate deadlines looming, urgent action is needed.

The pandemic taught us the importance of utilising digital technology to protect people. FMs are now aware of the use of accurate data to help manage assets as well as occupants, by streamlining maintenance programmes, monitoring building assets performance and measuring the amount of energy being used.

FMs have a key role in meeting ESG goals, which include:

* Environment: Meeting sustainability goals, including net zero targets, waste reduction and recycling

* Social: Maintaining health and safety, delivering social value, equality and diversity, duty of care and investment in skills

* Governance: Compliance with all regulatory requirements and legislation, and reducing errors by the use of robust data processes.

The webinar will take place on the 11th October at 11am.

If you are unable to attend please register and we will send through a recording of the event post webinar.
