Veolia has won a two-year contract to provide recycling and waste management services on behalf of Isle of Wight Council.
The contract which commenced on 1 April 2026 encompasses residual waste treatment, management of other material streams including dry recycling, household waste and recycling collections and management of household waste recycling centres on the Island.
The integrated waste management contract will provide household collection services to over 73,000 residential properties as well as the operation of two Household Waste and Recycling Centres. Veolia’s experienced teams will also operate and maintain the Council’s waste infrastructure, including the Energy Recovery Facility and Materials Recovery Facility. The partnership reflects Veolia’s GreenUp strategy, reinforcing its commitment to delivering sustainable, high-quality environmental services across the UK.
Following the early exit of a previous contractor, Veolia and the Isle of Wight Council have been working collaboratively over the past few months to ensure essential services continue with as little disruption as possible for residents and businesses on the island.
Ben Slater, Veolia Regional Director, Treatment South said: “We are delighted to announce our partnership with the Isle of Wight Council and are ready to deliver essential, sustainable and high quality services to residents and businesses across the Island. At Veolia, we have extensive experience and expertise in recycling and waste services and look forward to sharing our knowledge and innovation with the Council to help recycle as much as possible and continue their services without disruption.”
Natasha Dix, Isle of Wight Council, Service Director for Waste, Environment, and Planning, said: “The Isle of Wight Council’s priority is, and always will be, providing a reliable, efficient and environmentally responsible waste service for our community. Our residents are already some of the most committed recyclers in the country, and this switch marks the next step in supporting the Island’s passion for protecting our beautiful environment.
“We’re pleased to be working with Veolia, who share our commitment to high standards and a sustainable future for our Island. Together, we will continue to build on the strengths of our community and deliver the service our residents deserve.”
FMJ and Watco Webinar: Meeting compliance in a new culture of accountability
From January 2026, the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) formally separated from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Created under the Building Safety Act 2022 in response to the Grenfell Tower tragedy, the BSR is designed to raise safety standards across the built environment and introduce a stronger culture of accountability, transparency, and proactive risk management.
This shift places facilities managers in a more strategic safety assurance role – far beyond routine maintenance.
FMJ and Watco are hosting a webinar on 22 April at 11:00am to explore what this new regulatory landscape means for FMs. To register for the webinar click here.
