14forty wins £20m FM contract to provide soft and hard services for National Gas

14forty, one of the country’s largest facilities management companies and part of Compass Group UK & Ireland has won a contract to provide soft and hard services for National Gas. This contract was awarded due to 14forty’s comprehensive experience within the industry and its capacity to seamlessly shift and collaborate to meet the specific needs of National Gas.

National Gas owns and operates the national gas network through nearly 5,000 miles of piping. They also provide gas metering services to both businesses and households. As a result, they play a critical role in the country’s infrastructure and their service partners are integral to their success.

The National Gas estate includes gas compressor sites, above-ground installations (AGIs), satellite offices, pipeline maintenance centres, gas terminals and over 11,000 market posts which identify buried gas services along pipeline routes.

The agreement, which begins in September 2023 and covers the company’s entire GB estate, is worth approximately £20m and runs for five years initially with the option for National Gas to extend for a further two years.

14forty’s role is to help keep National Gas sites running smoothly, safely and securely – allowing the company to focus on delivering energy to its customers all over Britain.

Across the estate, 14forty will provide a comprehensive range of hard and soft services. These services include planned preventative maintenance, emergency repair and upgrade work to the estate’s building assets while ensuring legal compliance is maintained and lifecycle planning and energy efficiency are part of future asset strategies.

On the soft services, the estate includes grounds maintenance, cleaning, security, front-of-house facilities services, vending and watercoolers and pest management.

To complement this partnership, 14forty is also implementing a new helpdesk system to manage engineer visits and preventative maintenance schedules across the National Gas estate.

Mauro Ortelli, managing director at 14forty, said: “We’re thrilled to be appointed the integrated facilities management provider for National Gas, it’s the first contract they’ve awarded in this area since their separation from National Grid following a robust and thorough tender process.

“Being able to demonstrate that we will deliver the hard FM services with a focus on HSE, compliance and risk management was crucial in our approach, especially given the number of sites, the widespread geography, and their critical importance to UK infrastructure.

“Our teams look forward to a continued successful relationship where we build on the foundations, we have in place to deliver even greater operational and commercial value throughout the coming contract term.”

Ian Hollister, Occupied Estates Manager at National Gas, said: “The appointment of the right partner in this process is a crucial step to set the new business up for long-term sustainable success.

“14forty evidenced during the process their ability to support critical infrastructure in complex hard FM services at scale nationally. This, supported by a leading digital platform, will allow us to future-proof our strategy and gives us the confidence they are the right partner for us moving forwards.

“The depth of their knowledge, focus on safety, compliance, and the environment, all of which are core to their approach will help us minimise risk, and deliver for our customers and the planet.”
