Complii grows Lifts and Escalators division with acquisition of The Escalator Company

Complii, one of the UK’s leading providers of building safety and regulatory compliance services, has acquired The Escalator Company, a specialist in escalator and travelator servicing, maintenance, refurbishment and installation.

Based in Rochester, Kent, The Escalator Company brings over two decades of experience and a strong reputation for engineering excellence to Complii.

Founded in 2002 as a family business it has worked across all major manufacturers’ equipment and has built a strong track record of prioritising refurbishment and upgrade over replacement – an approach that Complii says aligns closely with its commitment to delivering practical, cost-effective compliance outcomes for clients.

The acquisition further builds out Complii’s dedicated Lifts and Escalators division, which was established to deliver specialist building compliance services across the full range of vertical and horizontal transportation equipment. With The Escalator Company now part of the Group, Complii adds it is “uniquely positioned” to offer clients a genuinely end- to-end Lifts and Escalators compliance service, covering everything from planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs to full refurbishment, new installation, and escalator spare parts supply.

The acquisition also further enhances Complii’s position as a comprehensive building compliance partner. Building owners and managers can now access an even more integrated suite of compliance services – spanning water, air, fire, electrical, lifts and escalators.

Kelly Barber, Managing Director of The Escalator Company, welcomed the acquisition as an exciting new chapter for the business and its team: “Joining Complii gives The Escalator Company access to greater resources and reach, while allowing the business to continue operating with the same commitment to craftsmanship, safety, and customer service that has defined it since 2002. The shared focus on compliance and quality made Complii a compelling partner, and our team is looking forward to being part of something bigger.”

Sarah Dixon, CEO of Complii, said: “The Escalator Company is an outstanding business with deep technical expertise, a highly skilled team, and a philosophy built around doing right by their customers — all qualities that make them a strong fit for Complii. I’m genuinely excited to welcome Kelly, Lee, and the team to Complii.”

The acquisition builds on Complii’s ‘buy and build’ growth strategy and follows the recent acquisitions of Classic Lifts (Scotland) Limited, which introduced lifts and escalators as a new compliance service line. With The Escalator Company now part of Complii, the Group’s Lifts and Escalators division continues to grow in both capability and geographic reach.
