Atlas accredited as a Foster Friendly Employer

Atlas FM has become the first facilities management company to become a Fostering Friendly Employer.

The Fostering Network’s scheme helps employers support and recognise the roles of employees who foster, through an HR policy which includes flexible working and paid time off for training and settling a new child in their home.

Nearly 40 per cent of foster carers combine fostering with other work and a supportive employer can make all the difference, enabling a balance between employment and looking after children.

Chris Wisely, Group Managing Director of Atlas, commented: “We are proud to achieve Fostering Friendly Employer status. Atlas is very much a family business and our purpose of ‘creating happiness’ leads us to strive to have a positive impact on the communities around us. The accreditation sends an important message to our employees that we fully support foster carers in the incredible work that they do to look after vulnerable children and young people.”

The Fostering Network is the UK’s leading fostering charity. The Executive Chair, Mervyn Erskine said: “Becoming a Fostering Friendly employer is something to be really proud of. Foster carers are the bedrock of children’s social care – for the difference they make to the lives of children. It is important that this vital role is not only recognised, but also encouraged by their employers. The scheme is free to join and suitable for organisations of any size.”

More than 90 organisations across the UK have signed up to the scheme.

2023 FMJ and Grundon Recycling and Waste Management Survey

FMJ in conjunction with Grundon Waste Management is pleased to launch the 2023 waste management and recycling survey which examines the ways in which FMs approach their waste management responsibilities.

In this, the sixth year for the annual appraisal, we know there is a greater opportunity than ever for FMs to reappraise their waste and recycling operations and help their organisations meet the growing pressure to achieve ESG goals.

We want to learn how FMs have adapted to the legislative, economic and societal changes of the past year and how they plan to meet the latest waste and recycling targets.

In this survey we’ve posed a series of questions which include insights into FMs’ waste management strategy and targets, how they’re moving towards zero waste targets, and the importance of not just meeting compliance targets but also ESG goals.

The results of the 2023 survey will be published in FMJ magazine and form the basis of a white paper co-written by FMJ and the experts at Grundon on how to approach waste and recycling strategies.
