Churchill bags Leeds shopping centre deal

Churchill has been awarded a three-year cleaning contract to support the Merrion Shopping Centre, owned by leading property development and investment company Town Centre Securities PLC (TCS).

The contract, which commenced on 7 August, has seen the companies partner to provide a safe, clean environment for the nine million plus internal visitors per annum.

Under the terms of the agreement, Churchill is now providing comprehensive cleaning services for the one million sq ft shopping centre which is located in the Arena Quarter in the heart of Leeds. The centre, which was originally built in the 1960s, has seen continuous investment and remains one of the city’s leading shopping and entertainment destinations.

Twenty Churchill cleaning colleagues now provide day and night cleaning across the mixed-use office and public areas.

Churchill was chosen for its “high-quality services and emphasis on sustainable solutions” including the removal of single use plastics and sustainably sourced uniforms which help further lower the centre’s carbon footprint.

The contract will be managed by Churchill operations in conjunction with the on-site Merrion Centre management team.

Commenting on the new contract award, Phil Matis, Operations Director for Scotland and the North at Churchill, said: “We are proud to be working with TCS and the Merrion Centre, which has a longstanding history within the city and is a well-recognised landmark. Our cleaning teams will help continue to provide excellent customer service and an enjoyable, clean environment for visitors. ”

Stephanie McCann, Centre Manager at the Merrion Centre, said: “We are excited for Churchill to support us at the Merrion Centre. Churchill’s extensive experience with retail spaces will help our building remain clean and hygienic to ensure visitors can relax as they shop. We have a hard-working team and the standard of cleanliness in the centre and our adjoining offices is a credit to them.”

The addition of TCS as a new client further adds to Churchill’s steadily growing retail portfolio which includes a number of additional properties in Leeds city centre and retail locations in the surrounding area.
