GPA-led fit-out works commence at Great British Energy HQ

The Government Property Agency (GPA) has reached an important milestone as it progresses plans to establish an office space for a new, publicly-owned energy company.

On Monday, the GPA-led fit-out works began at the Marischal Square development in Aberdeen, Scotland, which will serve as the headquarters of Great British Energy (GBE).

The project will ensure GBE’s workforce are provided with a workspace that boosts their productivity, while supporting collaboration and different ways of working.

The fit-out works, which will take place throughout the summer, will modify the layout of the space, with a reception area and meeting rooms set to be added to the building. The lighting and ventilation systems will be improved and the office will also be redecorated and recarpeted.

In February, GBE announced Marischal Square as its permanent home, which will be leased and managed by the GPA throughout the organisation’s tenure.

The new HQ will host GBE’s main corporate functions, supply chain activities, and major development projects including ambitions in deep-water offshore wind.

Mark Bourgeois, the GPA’s CEO, said: “We are proud to support the establishment of GBE as we continue to contribute towards the government’s Plan for Change. The start of fit-out works marks an important step in our mission to establish a secure, modern and high-quality office right in the heart of Aberdeen – underlining our commitment to create great places to work across the government estate. Once completed, this project will provide a corporate headquarters that supports GBE’s requirements and the performance of its employees. We will continue to work closely with GBE and our professional partners as we progress the Marischal Square development.”

Dan McGrail, GBE’s CEO, said: “Aberdeen is the perfect location for Britain’s publicly-owned energy company. It is a world- leading energy hub and has been crucial to our energy security for decades. We are all looking forward to this work being completed and moving into our permanent headquarters in Marischal Square.”
