Prolectric wins Carbon Reduction Champion at Construction News Awards 2023

Prolectric, the off-grid, renewable lighting and power specialist, has won the highly coveted Carbon Reduction Champion award at the prestigious Construction News Awards, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in Mayfair on Thursday 13th July 2023.

Hosted by veteran broadcaster Claudia Winkleman, the awards which have been dubbed the highlight of the Construction industry calendar, were attended by over 1,200 clients, contractors and suppliers to celebrate outstanding work across the construction sector. The ceremony was the culmination of work from more than 100 judges, including big-name directors from across the industry, who whittled down more than 400 entries.

Beating off strong competition from 9 other market leading brands, Prolectric impressed judges through clear demonstration of how its systems provide practical and commercially viable ways for businesses to stop using polluting fossil fuels to reduce carbon emissions and achieve carbon reduction commitments.

Serving a wide range of industries from construction, housebuilding and rail to major infrastructure, Prolectric’s sustainable technology is easily accessible providing a direct replacement for diesel systems. Since launching its first solar lighting tower in 2017 Prolectric estimates that its clients have saved 26 million kg of CO2 (January 2017 – February 2023) and reduced diesel usage by more than 10 million litres. As a result, the firm estimates it has saved customers more than £9 million.

The judges remarked that reducing carbon emissions was in Prolectric’s ‘DNA from the start’ with a “clear logical strategy and focus on product development with a five year plan and are highly respected in the industry after a relatively short time”. The judges added that “the company is research and data-driven with a fully inclusive company ethos. The scalability of its offer is immense and the potential carbon reduction opportunity in excess of 350,000 tonnes of CO2 per year in this space”.

Rachel Preen, Managing Director, Prolectric, commented: “We are delighted and honoured to win such an incredible accolade. The entry process and judging criteria are, quite rightly, rigorous, and put us through our paces, but have provided us with this unique and privileged platform to share our story and communicate our passion in the critical field of carbon reduction. Our range of environmentally friendly, advanced performance products have been designed as direct like-for-like diesel replacements, making them a simple switch. I am hugely proud of our talented team. It’s wonderful for everyone to receive such fantastic recognition.”

Prolectric was the first to introduce all-in-one solar street lighting to the UK in 2011, with specialist technology specifically designed and developed for UK weather conditions. As a market leader, the company has successfully installed over 8,000 units across the UK, providing high-quality, reliable, low-voltage LED lighting to customers across Local Authorities, MoD, Commercial and Industrial sectors.

The company’s solar lights, hybrid generators and CCTV, provide high-performance temporary and permanent site lighting, power and security – with minimal environmental impact and low running costs. In particular, Prolectric’s lighting systems produce zero carbon, zero noise, need little maintenance and require zero fuel.
